Day of St. Michael and All Angels.

The sermon on Sunday gave me an inspiring note for myself: "Shouldn't the angels be happy when one sinner comes to God?" It really caught my attention, because I would likely find it difficult to forgive someone who came back to God (I almost feel like they would be betraying ME). But we should all really be happy if that happens; it is really God's call whether HE should forgive, because it is all about Him.

"Random Acts of Kindness"

The group overtook us, today, as we were on our way home. :) They gave up the rest of their flowers, plus a loonie! Apparently, it was also for a scavenger hunt.

Mountie Open House

Little did we know there was a mountie detachment in Kitchener! Well, they had a 60th anniversary open house and it was short (which I liked) and, because we came so late, devoid of people.
This was the back of a heavily armoured vehicle.
They use it for anything, including visiting people who have
weapons or a history of violence.
There is one vehicle per province-these cover all of Ontario.

An 8-wheeler "ATV."

That table there and the little robot on the left of the picture
are for bomb threats and/or real ones.
The robot is the first to go into the situation; it has five
cameras, and a "grabber" to hold different tools.
On the table is the bomb gear that must be worn if they
have to go in the area themselves; the whole suit, including
the helmet weighs 80 pounds, and if you add extra "haz-mat"
suits, it weighs 14 pounds more. The suit has controls for
airconditioning and communication.
There was also a water "tube" (it looks like a mini telescope
on a tripod) which shoots out water so fast that it is like a
solid rod, and I think it is used to detonate the bomb. The
water also will stop any fire hazards.

A holding cell. The maximum amount of time they are allowed
to keep prisoners in there is 24 hours. Solid steel doors.

This mountie was impressed that my little brother
looked "just like her dad." :)

Hope this is interesting for everyone, though it is a lot nicer if you see and hear it yourself.

(At least she knows what the dishwasher is for [num-num is her word for food].)

Labour Day. ...

Labour Day has two meanings for me: Hannah, my first niece was born on this day, last year.
For the other meaning, I had to look on Wikipedia
(yes, I know it is not a reliable resource, but I still like it.:) .

(Not the greatest picture, but it is of my pretty and hard-working sister.)

Pony Rides! Only $1.00 per Ride!

The second sunny and warm day in a long, long time. Finally!

Today, I put tiny crocs, that I found, on Damaris (they were too big, still) and took her outside. She didn't want to come in! :)
Yesterday, I noticed that the leaves are already changing colour (in August)! Some of the trees were fully red.

Was bedeutet denn solch Wassertaufen?

The Fourth Part, The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

I. The Nature of Baptism
What is Baptism?
Baptism is not simple water only, but it is the water comprehended in God's command and connected with God's Word.
Which is that word of God?
Christ, our Lord, says in the last chapter of Matthew: Go ye and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
II. The Blessing of Baptism
What does Baptism give or profit?
It works forgiveness of sins, delivers from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.
Which are such words and promises of God?
Christ, our Lord, says in the last chapter of Mark: He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved; but he that believeth not, shall be damned.
III. The Power of Baptism
How can water do such great things?
It is not the water indeed that does them, but the word of God which is in and with the water, and faith, which trusts such word of God in the water. For without the word of God the water is simple water and no Baptism. But with the word of God it is a Baptism, that is, a gracious water of life and a washing of regeneration in the Holy Ghost, as St. Paul says, Titus, chapter three: {According to His mercy He saved us} By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost, which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ, our Saviour, that, being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying.
IV. The Significance of Baptizing with Water
What does such baptizing with water signify?
It signifies that the Old Adam in us should, by daily contrition and repentance, be drowned and die with all sins and evil lusts and, again, a new man daily come forth and arise, who shall live before God in righteousness and purity forever.
Where is this written?
St. Paul says, Romans, chapter six: We are buried with Christ by Baptism into death, that, like as He was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Cyprus Lake

Monday, we had a little holiday and went to Bruce Peninsula National Park. It's on Lake Superior, so the water is crystal clear, deep, and cold. It was a beautiful place, almost kid-friendly, and it is a place that one could go again and again. Everything is kept up very well and it has beautiful, themed ( they match the landscape they go through) trails for the amount of money you have to pay to get in.

Death

For a long while, I was afraid of death-my death. Saying that I don't know would be lying; rather, I was thinking about my earthly possesions and what would become of them or something to that extent. I guess I sort of didn't believe in Heaven subconciously.
One day at church, I was reading ahead in a hymn that we were singing about Heaven and its loveliness (and all those possessions were there forever), and I wasn't scared anymore.

Spiders

Yesterday, as I was watering trees, a trap-door spider came peeking out, wondering why his house was leaking. I have seen a garden spider and all sorts of other web spiders, a lovely pink-and-white spider ( I think it was a goldenrod spider in a different camouflage), but never a trap-door spider.

Geheiliget werde dein Name.
Dein Reich komme.
Was heißt denn täglich Brot?
Amen.
Was heißt Amen?

The Third Part, The Lord's Prayer

The Introduction:
Our Father who art in heaven.
What does this mean?
God would by these words tenderly invite us to believe that He is our true Father, and that we are His true children, so that we may with all boldness and confidence ask Him as dear children ask their dear father.
The First Petition:
Hallowed be Thy name.
What does this mean?
God's name is indeed holy in itself; but we pray in this petition that it may be holy among us also.
How is this done?
When the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we, as the children of God, also lead a holy life according to it. This grant us, dear Father in heaven. But he that teaches and lives otherwise than God's Word teaches, profanes the name of God among us. From this preserve us, heavenly Father.
The Second Petition:
Thy kingdom come.
What does this mean?
The kingdom of God comes indeed without our prayer, of itself; but we pray in this petition that it may come unto us also.
How is this done?
When our heavenly Father gives us His Holy Spirit, so that by His grace we believe His holy Word and lead a godly life, here in time and hereafter in eternity.
The Third Petition:
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
What does this mean?
The good and gracious will of God is done indeed without our prayer; but we pray in this petition that it may be done among us also.
How is this done?
When God breaks and hinders every evil counsel and will which would not let us hallow God's name nor let His kingdom come, such as the will of the devil, the world, and our flesh; but strengthens and preserves us steadfast in His Word and faith unto our end. This is His gracious and good will.
The Fourth Petition:
Give us this day our daily bread.
What does this mean?
God gives daily bread indeed without our prayer, also to all the wicked; but we pray in this petition that He would lead us to know it and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving.
What is meant by daily bread?
Everything taht belongs to the support and wants of the body, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, home, field, cattle, money, goods, a pious spouse, pious children, pious servants, pious and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, discipline, honour, good friends, faithful neighbours, and the like.
The Fifth Petition:
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
What does this mean?
We pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would not look upon our sins, nor on their account deny our prayer; for we are worthy of none of the things for which we pray, neither have we deserved them; but that He would grant them all to us by grace; for we daily sin much and indeed deserve nothing but punishment. So will we also heartily forgive, and readily do good to those who sin against us.
The Sixth Petition:
And lead us not into temptation.
What does this mean?
God indeed tempts no one; but we pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us, so that the devil, the world, and our flesh may not deceive us nor seduce us into misbelief, despair, and other great shame and vice; and though we be assailed by them, that still we may finally overcome and obtain the victory.
The Seventh Petition:
But deliever us from evil.
What does this mean?
We pray in this petition, as the sum of all, that our Father in heaven would deliver us from every evil of body and soul, property and honour, and finally, when our last hour has come, grant us a blessed end, and graciously take us from this vale of tears to Himself in heaven.
The Conclusion:
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
What is meant by the word "Amen"?
That I should be certain that these petitions are acceptable to our Father in heaven and heard by Him; for He Himself has commanded us so to pray, and has promised to hear us. Amen, Amen, that is Yea, yea, it shall be so.

O Canada!

Psalm 72:8 - He (God) shall have dominion also from sea to sea, ...

The dominion of Canada was founded on God and His Word. On July 1, 1867 (147 years ago), several men (the "Fathers of Confederation") met in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to form a new nation. They decided to name it the Dominion of Canada after the Bible verse and from that same verse chose the motto, " From sea to sea." The term, Dominion, was later dropped, I guess to accomodate the people who didn't believe in God.

Sweet little maple tree!

                                                                      O Canada!
Where pines and maples grow;
Great prairies spread,
And lordly rivers flow.
How dear to us thy broad domain
From east to western sea;
Thou land of hope for all who toil -
Thou true north strong and free!

God keep our land
Glorious and free.
Oh Canada! We stand on guard for thee!
Oh Canada! We stand on guard for thee!

"Canada" came from a native word, "Kanata," meaning village.

Worldpride Day

Yesterday was Worldpride Day, and for those who don't know what it is about, it is basically a "homosexual day of pride." As for me,  it is a sin and should be quenched whenever it comes up. However, those who are converted Christians may find it hard to convert their former tendencies, and should have as much support as possible to overcome.
The Bible says: "Because, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were they thankful,... They changed the glory of an incorruptible God into an image made like to a corruptible man.... Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator,... For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind...." (Romans 1: 21, 23, 25 - 28 [King James Version])

Treasures in Heaven.

The Bible verse at the top of my blog says to lay up treasures in heaven, not on earth.
Treasures on earth include things like money, jewels, cars, houses, anything that will pass away when Judgement Day comes. Laying up treasures on earth won't help you any when that day comes and God will have to judge you.
Laying up treasures in heaven could be things like being kind, gentle, loving, helpful to and doing good deeds for everyone out of love to God and so, adding treasures in the book of life.

Baptism

Until today, I had never really thought about how many people practice adult or "older child" baptism. I don't think that it is a good practice, though.
My church baptizes young children/ infants with good reason: Whoever "shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone be hanged about his neck and he be drowned in the depths of the sea." (Matthew 18:6 - King James version)     To offend the child would be to think that he couldn't believe and/or not baptize him/her.
The Kingdom of God belongs to the children and "forbid them not," (Mark 10:14 - King James) because they have a simple faith and believe without questioning.  Forbidding them would be to hold off baptizing or keep them from going to church, etc.
"Out of the mouth of babes ... thou hast perfected praise." (Matthew 21:16 - King James Bible).
"I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes." (Matthew 11:25)
